.. recipe review | deep dark decadent cookies ..

Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I attended a holiday gathering, in which we were required to dress festively (e.g., cosby sweaters...you don't want to know what urban dictionary has to say about this), bring along homemade cookies, and dirty santa gifts.

I don't want to brag or anything (well, maybe just a little!), but we won the cookie challenge; voted best cookie by those voracious eaters! We can't take full credit as we used a recipe from Bon Appetit via Epicurious (Deep Dark Chocolate Cookies). We did make it our own though, by adding dried cherries, macadamian nuts, and huge chunks of bittersweet chocolate into the mix. Yum, yum, yum!! Also, we added a pinch of cayenne pepper, which gave it that extra kick. Finally, we took the advice of some reviewers on the site and lowered the oven temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. It was a great success! The cookie was chewy, rich, and super simple to make.

This may not be the prettiest cookie, but people will devour it too quickly to notice it's appearance. Oh, I forgot to mention that we also dusted the cookies with powdered sugar and then cocoa on top after the cookies had sufficient cooled on racks (this was in addition to rolling the dough in powdered sugar before baking)... It made the cookies look more elegant, and they weren't too sweet either, since we had the bittersweet chocolate, tart cherries, as well as spicy cayenne.
