Lola Gaspar | Santa Ana, CA | 01.26.10

I love me some Lola!! I take many of my out of town friends here, because I like the atmosphere, love the big footed zombie girl hanging on the wall, and die for the food!

It's not authentic Spanish tapas, but there are some great dishes to share all around. I can't get enough of the street tacos (e.g., duck, lamb, carne asada), especially with all the spicy and savory sauces they serve on the side. I can't stop munching on the chips and guacamole, and the tortillas with butter and honey are warm and delicious.

For some heartier fare, you can't beat the sautéed calamari. Sometimes, it's made to perfection (i.e., calamari has a nice texture, not rubbery at all and the sauce is full of spices and sweet sautéed onions), while at other times it can be a bit too salty.

The only complaint I have about Lola is that sometimes the quality of the food can be a bit inconsistent. Don't get me wrong, it's never bad, but sometimes it's not as good.

I've tried practically everything on the menu, and they all satisfy the palette. FYI, they do change up the menu once in awhile, so you may not always find what you're looking for. The upside though is, you get to try new dishes!!

The drinks are very tasty, not too strong (which can be a positive or negative depending on day/person), and they usually have some good deals (especially with the house sangria).

P.S. | End your meal with the bread pudding.
